Custom UAV design for the job you need done

Dronewest designs and builds custom UAV solutions in Perth. If a standard drone does not suit the job, we can help shape a design around your payload, working conditions and intended use. Our practical experience includes CAD, 3D printing, machining and design for manufacture.

Define what the aircraft needs to do

A useful design brief starts with the result you need. That might be carrying a specialist sensor, collecting data for research or adapting an aircraft to a particular working environment. Bring the problem, along with any equipment or approach you already have.

We can work through payload size and weight, power, required operating time, transport and budget. Those constraints help determine whether an existing platform can be adapted or a custom design is worth pursuing. Access for maintenance and replacement parts belongs in that discussion too.

Develop the design in CAD and physical prototypes

CAD lets us work through the shape, fit and arrangement of parts before making them. Physical prototypes can then help answer questions about clearance, access and assembly that are harder to judge on a screen.

Our hands-on experience with 3D printing and machining informs those choices. A printed part may be useful for checking fit; the final part may need a different material or manufacturing process. We can discuss what each prototype needs to establish before committing to the next version.

Plan for manufacture and the next stage

Design for manufacture means considering how parts will be made and assembled while the design is still taking shape. For a product intended for market, that discussion also needs to cover repeatability, servicing and what remains unresolved before production.

Mark’s CleanSpot cleaning drone project is one example of work on a UAV platform with purpose-built cleaning hardware. It is a prototype, with further development still ahead. You can see it among the projects on Mark’s portfolio.

Bring your drawings, payload specifications or early concept. We can agree the design scope, useful deliverables and the next step without assuming every project needs a complete aircraft built from scratch.
